National Commander Heun visiting the Department of Ohio's Fall Conference this week
Gregory Heun, Navy veteran and National Commander of AMVETS, our nation’s largest Congressionally-chartered veteran service organization will be at AMVETS Department of Ohio's Fall Conference in Columbus, Ohio this week, as he tours AMVETS posts across the nation, addressing members and speaking on the issues veterans face and how AMVETS is confronting them.
Over the last few years, AMVETS has been at the forefront of advocating for quality mental healthcare for all veterans as well as improving suicide prevention efforts. Commander Heun has also made providing better for women veterans a priority, as well as exploring a holistic approach to veteran wellness (homelessness, employment opportunities, quality healthcare).
Commander Heun is a Kentucky resident and was elected by delegates from across the nation at AMVETS’ 76th national convention, which took place in August 2021 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Commander Heun’s journey with AMVETS started in 2002, where he was widely accepted by fellow AMVETS in his community, as well as at the national level. He has risen through the national ranks over the years, serving as a Post Commander, Department Commander, 3rd, 2nd, and 1st National Vice Commander en route to leading our nation’s most inclusive Congressionally-chartered veterans service organization.
Commander Heun served in the United States Navy from 1984 – 1991 as an Aviation Structural Mechanic Second Class, serving aboard multiple aircraft carriers and airfields. He has also received notable accommodations from multiple naval captains.
